The Richmond Music Study Club (RMSC) and its members welcome music teachers, performers, and those who appreciate music within the community.  We strive to promote the musical experience through teaching, performing, and collaborating with other musicians in the metro-Richmond area.  We hope to enrich the lives of our musicians and their students with many opportunities for growth and performance.

President’s Letter

It is an honor to serve as your RMSC President.  The Richmond Music Study Club is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization setup and affiliated with the Virginia Federation of Music Clubs and National Federation of Music Clubs in February, 1951.  Our Junior Festival takes place each March, and it is a great opportunity for our students to perform for other teachers and get their feedback.  Our students can also participate in our annual RMSC Scholarship Competition.  Members are able to network with other teachers in our area.  We have our annual meeting in May to discuss the Festival and the Scholarship Competition.  Thank you for your continued support each year.

— Tim Allison, RMSC President

History

In February 1951, The Morning Music Study Club of Richmond was organized as part of the Virginia Federation of Music Clubs and National Federation of Music Clubs.  The intent was to be a group of members devoted to the study, appreciation, and performance of serious music.

About NFMC

Since its founding in 1898, NFMC has become the largest nonprofit organization in America to promote and support American music, performers and music education. As a grassroots organization working in communities throughout America, we provide musical opportunities for all ages: professional and amateur musicians, benefactors, volunteers, music lovers, music teachers, music students, and supportive parents.

About VFMC

In 1920, just 32 years after the National Federation of Music Clubs (NFMC) was founded, representatives from the Virginia State Teachers Association and numerous State Music Clubs came together and took the initial steps to become a state organization under the NFMC. Since that historic gathering, the Virginia Federation of Music Clubs (VFMC) has become a “Star State” within the NFMC.
