In February 1951, The Morning Music Study Club of Richmond was organized as part of the Virginia Federation of Music Clubs and National Federation of Music Clubs.  The intent was to be a group of members devoted to the study, appreciation, and performance of serious music.

Initial officers were:

  • President – Mrs. H.B. Lipscomb (Virginia)
  • Vice President – Mrs. D.R. Walton (Constance)
  • Secretary – Mrs. C.R. Everett
  • Treasurer – Mrs. Winifred Woodson

Club programs included recitals (composer/theme) and speakers, and they have been held in members’ homes, local churches, schools and other venues. The club has funded scholarships, participated in music competitions and an annual Junior Festival, and supported other artistic endeavors including a National Music Week Essay Contest, and a Scrapbook Competition.

By 1975, the group was renamed The Richmond Music Study Club. Our main focus is to provide exciting events and opportunities to support music students of our teacher membership.
